The CareFirst Patient and Family Portal module serves the patient and the patient's family's increasing prominence in the medical care continuum. Patient portals are now becoming standard practice and a great convenience both for the patient and their provider in ambulatory settings. Traditionally they are designed for a patient to remotely communicate with a provider. Our Family Portal is unique in that it is specifically designed for family access to both the provider and the resident patient while maintaining the proper levels of access and security required by HIPPA. The CareFirst Patient and Family Portal encrypts all data en route and encrypts all Protected Health Information (PHI) when it is stored in the database.

Sophisticated Levels of Access Control for Family Members

The CareFirst Patient and Family Portal offers a finely tuned array of access levels for both patient and their family members. Any section of a patient's medical record can be granted or denied access to a given family member. This way the subset of activity that the patient deems to be private can be hidden while more general data and communication can be allowed a wider audience.

Multiple Devices Supported

In contrast to the usual strict requirements inherent in software aimed at medical clinicians, the CareFirst Patient and Family Portal was designed to support a much wider variety of web browsers and screen sizes, given that one cannot exert as much control over the ecosystem of client browsers for patients in their homes.

HL7 v3 Compliant

The CareFirst Patient and Family Portal communicates with other CareFirst modules such as the Patient Record EHR and the Practice Manager and any other vendor's HL7 v3 compliant products with HL7 v3 data with the HL7 Clinical Document Architecture (CDA) and Continuity of Care Record (CCR) formats. The HL7 Reference Implementation Model (RIM) is the default nomenclature for all records.

ICD-10, SNOMED, LOINC, and UMLS Terminology Standards

The CareFirst Patient and Family Portal uses ICD-10, SNOMED, and LOINC terminology Standards for ease of code lookup and billing.
