Gandara Residential Services for Women (GRSW)

30 person women’s recovery program using Matrix Model format for group process. Focus on behavior modification techniques and modalities with positive reinforcement. Addiction is viewed as an effort to self medicate and staff adhere to the addiction disease model and establish a working alliance with participants to motive and assist them in creating positive behavioral changes and commit to learning skills that support a life of sobriety. Average length of stay 6-12 months. (9-12 months optimum)

Hairston House

Social Model recovery program for men. Focuses on individual responsibility and peer support as the basis for substance abuse recovery. Uses behavior modification techniques and modalities with positive reinforcement. 17 bed facility.

Eligibility: male, 18+ and willing to take responsibility for developing and maintaining an individualized service plan, and to assume responsibility for house expectations and following Social Model Guidelines.

Long-term residential recovery treatment program for Spanish speaking men with a dependency on alcohol and drugs. 42-bed facility. Average length of stay is 6-12 months.

Eligibility: male, 18 + years, MA resident, Spanish speaking and have a history of drug/alcohol dependence but currently abstinent from drugs/alcohol.

Summer Street House

Provides a sober living opportunity for individuals committed to communal living in an environment where they voluntarily agree to abstain from the use of alcohol and illicit drugs as a condition of their participations in the life and operation of the house. Follows National Association of Recovery Residences (NARR) guidelines. Governed by rules and agreements established by residents in conjunction with Gandara Center representatives.

Permanent supportive housing with case management for 6 individuals in recovery from substance abuse. Shared housing in a 2-floor duplex, 3-individual bedrooms and shared common area. Close proximity to services, transportation, and recovery supports.

Eligibility: Homeless men and women, at least 18 years old, minimum 6 months drug/alcohol free, demonstrated commitment to recovery and sober living

Recovery Supportive Housing


The Supportive Housing Programs work in collaboration with HAP Housing, area recovery homes, and shelters to provide safe, sober, and affordable bilingual housing options to individuals and families in recovery.

Community Housing Program (Families)

Offers affordable, supportive housing with bilingual case management services to families in recovery. Applicants must be 18+ years old, have custody of a minor child (or working with DCF for reunification), have a least 6 months documented sobriety, and have completed a residential recovery program.

Serenity (Women)

12-18 month transitional supportive case management for 12 women in recovery who have completed a residential recovery program. Units are subsidized through the Chicopee Housing Authority.

Eligibility: 18 and over, must have some income, sober/clean for at least 6 months. Must abstain from substances and be in recovery.

Recovery Support Centers welcome all people in recovery from substance abuse and those affected by substance abuse. RSC services are free and provide peer-to-peer supports including peer facilitated support, relapse prevention and tobacco cessation support groups, social events, access to computers for job readiness/job search activities, and advocacy and recovery coaching. Support also includes peer governance where participants form advisory boards and use community meetings to create policies such as Code of Ethics and Code of Conduct, and determine program activities such as peer support groups and participation in health fairs, community events and celebrations/holidays. Volunteer opportunities are available for members who are committed to their recovery and actively participate in the center. The centers are open during the day, 7 days a week. On Monday, Wednesday and Friday they are open until 8 p.m.

Admission Requirement: All paths to recovery are accepted. Participants must be 18 years of age or older. Parents may bring adolescents or children to the center if they follow the center’s policy related to supervision and attendance. Members who come under the influence of substances or alcohol would be given a choice to go for treatment or they will be asked to leave and come back when they are not under the influence.

N.O.E.L. (Navigating, Outreach, Education, Linkages)

A community-based prevention and early detection program offering free outreach, education and cancer screenings, specifically colo-rectal, cervical and breast, to underserved and hard-to-reach populations.

Tobacco Free Community Partners

TFCP supports the smoke free efforts of Springfield and surrounding communities both in the home and in the workplace. The TFCP increases public knowledge of smoking as the leading preventable cause of death in MA, maintaining Mass Health utilization rates, working to eliminate the sale of over the counter tobacco to youth, promoting the Ex-Smokers Hall of Fame project and supporting smoke free housing efforts in Springfield and surrounding areas. The TFCP provides smoking related materials and education to professional health care providers about the negative effects of second hand smoke and fosters relationships with the community and other human service agencies to ensure support for those who wish to live smoke free lives.  MassHealth covers all FDA-approved medicines and counseling to help you quit smoking. Other public health insurance plans in Massachusetts, including Commonwealth Care and Medicare, also cover counseling support and many FDA-approved medicines. Project Health: Case Management for People with HIV/AIDS

Medical case management for HIV positive clients in the Springfield area.  Staff are fluent in Spanish and their strength is in working with Spanish speaking clients, although services are open to everyone. Clients of any age may receive services. Case management assists clients to access medical, mental health and substance abuse services and to maintain a positive lifestyle despite being HIV+ or having AIDS.
